apibrėžtis Apdovanojimas, ledo ritulio žurnalistų sprendimu kasmet skiriamas Nacionalinės ledo ritulio lygos žaidėjui už ryžtą, ištvermę, sportinį entuziazmą. V. Mastertono prizą įsteigė Profesionalų ledo ritulio žurnalistų asociacija 1968 m. „Minnesota North Stars“ profesionalų klubo žaidėjo V. Mastertono (W. Masterton), tais pačiais metais mirusio nuo rungtynėse patirtos traumos, atminimui. Pirmas V. Mastertono prizą gavo „Montreal Canadiens“ klubo žaidėjas C. Pronovostas.
